A leading bus company operating between the CBD and Thika Super Highway has announced it will offer free ride top students from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology on selected days.

Neo Kenya Mpya, Bus Company said during its launch of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative that JKUAT students will enjoy free rides on Thursday’s between 3 pm and 4 pm.

They will only be required to produce their student ID card when boarding the company’s buses.

“JKUAT students are our main client, that is why we settled on them as the first beneficiaries of the program,” one of the directors Douglas Kuria told the Star.

He said that the initiative will be part of bringing back the lost glory in the matatu industry which has been painted in bad light for ages.

Kuria added that besides Thursday free rides, the management will also determine some other appropriate time to offer free rides during off-peak hours.

“We intend to make traveling not only a business but an experience where we get to understand our customers.”

On the launch day of the CSR, 100 students were ferried which technically translates to 3 buses.

“The reception by the students was positive and we look forward to the continued corporation with all our customers,” Kuria said.
