Some 637 Kenyans tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday raising the total to 14,805.
Of these, 14 are foreigners. 361 are males and 276 are females. The youngest was a one-year-old, while the oldest was 88 years.
The Ministry of Health tested 4,275 samples, Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman said on Wednesday.
However, even as the number of positive cases continues to increase, some 499 patients recovered bringing the total number to 6,757.
A majority of the recoveries, 406, were home-based patients while 93 are from hospitals across the country.
Sadly, 10 more patients succumbed to the virus bringing the tally to 260.
Health Director-General Dr Patrick Amoth said that hypertension and diabetes are the leading underlying causes that have led to the death of most COVID-19 patients.
The continued increase in the number of cases comes as a governors push President Uhuru Kenyatta to impose another lockdown.
Uhuru was expected to chair a summit with Governors at State House on Friday where he was set to discuss the way forward on coronavirus measures.
However, he cancelled the summit.
“His Excellency the President has acceded to the request by the Council of Governors to reschedule the 5th Extra-Ordinary Session of the National and County Governments Co-ordinating Summit,” a statement from State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena read on Wednesday.
Besides containment measures, the summit will also discuss the level of preparedness across the 47 counties in containing the pandemic.
