Former Commissioner with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Dr. Roselyn Akombe has resurfaced after a long while of silence.

Akombe secretly flew out of the country to New York a week before the October 26, 2017 repeat presidential elections.

She cited intimidation and threats on her life as some of the reasons that led to her abrupt end of tenure with IEBC and covert journey back to New York where she worked before her appointment as a commissioner.

Yesterday, she weighed in on matters police reforms in the country. She spoke in relation to a horrifying ordeal where a uniformed police officer was captured on tape, Thursday, assaulting and brutalizing a civilian along Likoni road in Nairobi.

Akombe said police reforms should be cardinal in ensuring that Kenyans can trust police officers with their safety and security.

“The goal of police reform in Kenya is to transform the Kenya Police and administration police into efficient effective and professional and accountable security agencies that Kenyans can trust for their safety and security,” she said via a tweet.

Kenyans supported her with Reat Nhial.T condemning the police for being rogue. “The police acted like a gang in uniform,” he said while Shady said, “This should be their main objective.”

The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet in a statement said they have positively identified the officer caught on the tape.

“Officer captured on video assaulting an individual has been identified and is being processed for disciplinary action. We call upon the individual assaulted to present himself to Nairobi Area Police Commander for statement recording to facilitate the officer’s trial in court,” read the statement posted in twitter via Kenya Police Service twitter handle on Friday.
