American couple Larry Peckham and Denise Huitron at the Muthaiga Police Station.

An American couple arrested in connection to hacking and stealing sh4 billion from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) have demanded to have their equipment returned.

The couple Larry Peckham and Denise Huitron demanded to have their electronics returned before their deportation slated for Tuesday night.

Kenyan police confiscated two laptops, five mobile phones and a load of documents according to Peckham.

He further accused Flying squad and Special Crimes Prevention Unit of failing to adhere to a court order that directed all their property to be returned to them and they be escorted back to their residence to park their belongings.

The couple has vehemently denied ever being involved in the hacking syndicate that saw Kenya’s 28-year old Alex Mutuku nabbed by Cyber Security officers in a sting operation.

Peckham said together with his wife, they had been released by the court due to lack of evidence as the basis of his arrest was solely on a phone call he made to Mutuku prior to his arrest.

He was, however, detained for having an expired visa.

On reaching the US Embassy in Kenya, they were informed that the seized property cannot be released as it is being used to conduct an investigation into the heist.

Mr. Peckham said that he has been in the country for three years following-up on a company that allegedly scammed his company, losing Sh.40 million.

The couple was arrested together Calvin Ogolla who is a former police officer and is a KRA official and 13 other suspects alleged to be involved in the KRA hacking that resulted in the loss of Sh. 4 billion.
