Registrars working at the Kenyatta National Hospital have downed their tools in protest of one of their colleagues who was suspended last week following a botched brain surgery.

On Thursday, the hospital suspended the admission rights of a Neurosurgery Registrar and issued him with a show-cause letter for allegedly performing brain surgery on the wrong patient.

This move has not sat very well with the registrars who are now on strike demanding that systemic issues at the institution be resolved.

According to Daily Nation, a registrar “is a doctor who is receiving advanced training in a specialist field of medicine to become a consultant.”

Most of those who have now downed their tools are Master’s students who work at the referral hospital.

They held a meeting on Monday morning with Kenya Medical Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) where they cited unwarranted victimization of one of their colleagues.
