A storm is brewing in Jubilee house as allied politicians from Nyeri County politicians take on one of their own over alleged calls to have Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri sacked.

On Sunday, 15 politicians from Central Kenya, majority of them from Nyeri County hit out at Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina over his calls to have Kiunjuri sacked and replaced by a politician from the County.

Former Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe has been fronted for the job.

But the MPs led by Laikipia North MP Patrick Mariru spoke against Maina’s push to have Kiunjuri sacked as divisive.

“Mr Maina has been on the warpath with almost everyone from Mount Kenya region,” said the MP as quoted by Daily Nation.

“He should know that the contribution of Mr Kiunjuri in the recent election of President Kenyatta is huge. Let him tell us what he did not only in Nyeri but the entire region,” In a rejoinder, Maina refuted the claims saying he is in no way opposed to Kiunjuri retaining the Cabinet Secretary post.”+

The Nyeri Senator in response to the accusations said his problem with the CS was that he breached Jubilee campaign agenda by campaigning for independent candidate Dan Wamahiu instead of the late Dr Wahome Gakuru.

“Nyeri has its own leadership and we don’t expect any advice from anybody, not to mention Kiunjuri himself. It was surprising that he would interfere against Jubilee Party and the leadership of Nyeri by supporting an independent candidate,” said the Senator according to the Star.

He added: I was quoted in a subject that I was never involved in.. It is not my prerogative to tell the President whom to appoint.”

Reports from a local daily in the country on Saturday said that leaders from the regions felt discontented with Kiunjuri for meddling with the region’s politics thus, he should not be re-appointed.

This is not the first time the CS has found himself in murky political waters.

In April this year after the Jubilee primaries, he came under fire from several political heavy weights in Central Kenya.

They accused him of engineering his downfall as he angles himself for the DPs post in 2022.

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo was among political bigwigs who attributed their downfall to the CS.

Kiunjuri in response said he was in no way involved in their downfall. He said they should blame their performance instead.
