Six seats stolen from State House in Nakuru were on Sunday found at a hotel owned by a senior County official.

The seats are reported to have gone missing between October and November last year, a detective privy to the case told the Standard.

“It is suspected the chairs were stolen from State House and some found their way to a hotel owned by a top official working in the county government,” said the detective who requested for anonymity.

The hotel is located along Nakuru’s Kenyatta Avenue.

The officers conducted a raid at the establishment before proceeding to the official’s home.

Nakuru OCPD Samuel Obara who led the operation said that 60 executive chairs were reported to be missing.

He said they raided the hotel on a tip off but they only found six seats out of the total 60 reported to have been stolen.

“Sixty chairs went missing from the State Lodge in Nakuru and we are investigating how they ended up at the hotel.

We raided the hotel after getting information that some of the missing chairs were at the hotel,” he said as further quoted by the Standard.

The hotel’s manager was arrested during the raid.

However, Obara said the crime surrounding the stealing of the sixty executive seats is a sensitive issue because the premises are one of Kenya’s highly guarded areas.

Thus, briefs on the investigations will be handled by police headquarters because such a matter could easily implicate his officers.

“This issue is sensitive and should be handled with care that is why police headquarters will brief you.”

The hotel has since closed.

When the county official was contacted over the matter, he dismissed assertions that the seats were recovered in his establishment.

“Talk to the police because that is false information,” he stated before he hang up.
