I will not resign as the IEBC Chairman even in the face of challenges at the commission says Wafula Chebukati.

He said challenges at the commission owing to the repeat polls slated for October 26 cannot break him to a point he even considers to resign.

Chebukati who spoke in Uasin Gishu County on Saturday said there exists differences of opinion at the commission which is normal but IEBC is intact.

“There may be differences of opinion but the commission is united and committed to deliver a credible, free and fair election,” he said according to the Star.

He maintained the commission is ready to conduct credible polls on October 26.

The chairman denied reports from sections of the media that he has been walking out of meetings due to differences he has with his colleagues.

Chebukati insisted that besides President Uhuru Kenyatta, NASA’s Raila Odinga will be on the ballot too as well as five other candidates who contested in the August 8 polls.

He said Raila is yet to withdraw officially by signing Form 24A meaning he is still in the race.

“We have not received any other communication from him so we are proceeding with all plans as scheduled,” said the Chairman.

He added that IEBC is ready to conduct polls across the 290 constituencies in the country.

There have been rumours that Raila could call on his supporters from his strongholds to boycott the polls which would effectively render the repeat poll null and void.

“Our mandate is on elections and we are ready in all areas. There are institutions to ensure we do our work smoothly,” said Chebukati.
