Chief Justice David Maraga is the man to watch

All eyes are on Chief Justice David Maraga as he leads Supreme Court judges in making another determination on the Presidential petition before the court yet again.

In less than three months, Maraga, together with six other judges of the Supreme Court will give Kenya direction in regard to the petition.

The apex court is expected to give a ruling by November 20.

The IEBC declared President Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner of the repeat polls which was marred by low voter turnout.

Former Kilome MP Harun Mwau, two lobby groups led by Njonjo Mue and Khelef Khalifa have petitioned the victory.

Opposition on the other hand has dismissed the election as a “sham”.

Yesterday, he directed all respondents in the cases to file their responses by 5pm on Sunday.

The respondents are also expected file and serve their written submissions limited to 30 pages by 5pm Monday.

Any party seeking to be enjoined in either of the cases should le and serve their applications and written submissions of not more than five pages by midday on Monday.

Those seeking to be enjoined in the case as amicus curiae, should file their application limited to five pages by 5pm Monday.

After the Supreme Court ruling on September 1, the CJ came under fire from a section of Kenya’s political class.

In particular, Jubilee Party led by Uhuru was criticized him for “overturning the will of Kenyans”.

But an unapologetic Maraga came out and warned that he will not hesitate to nullify the repeat polls if they flout the law.
