IEBC Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba has denied reports that he was chased away from Yvonne Wamalwa’s burial on Saturday in Milimani Estate, Kitale.

Chiloba in explanation of the events of the day said the news circulating on social media that he was kicked out is purely fake.

“News circulating on social media is “fake, propaganda and a distortion of reality,” he posted on twitter Saturday evening.

It is reportedly said trouble started when Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka rose to introduce the guests attending the funeral and mentioned Chiloba’s name.

This, according to the Star, was met with incessant heckling and booing by youths who demanded that Chiloba leaves because he is a “traitor” who betrayed the Luhya community.

Chiloba later left before the burial ended after realizing his presence had not sat very well with sections of the mourners at the funeral.

He later said the people of his home county could not in any way put up such an act to one of their sons who hails from Trans Nzoia County.

“That video clip is another distortion of reality! Editing my farewell remarks to a number of youths who wanted to say jambo. Our Trans Nzoia county is great, with a great people!

He added in a separate post on his twitter handle: “Lots of FAKE NEWS today. Let us all be advocates of TRUTH – at all times. It doesn’t matter how long it takes! As a matter of fact, the event went on very well. There is lots of genuine LOVE and good FOOD in Trans Nzoia County (TNC) – And that is my home.”

Yvonne was the widow of the late Vice President Kijana Wamalwa who passed on in 2003.

Her funeral service turned to be a battle ground as politicians lashed out at one another.

Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa, a relative, hit out at sections of politicians from the opposition claiming that Yvonne died a poor woman because government neglected her.

He said these claims were unfounded because Yvonne even at the time of her death was serving as an ambassador.

“Check for the correct information with the family. She always served and died as an ambassador. The information you have given is wrong and I must correct that perception.

“I, Eugene Wamalwa, am the only family spokesman and no one can speak on our behalf,” he said as quoted by the Star.

Still at the event, the DP William Ruto and NASA co-principal Senator Moses Wetangula tore each other down.

Wetangula told Ruto off over media shut down while Ruto told Wetangula off over the self-inauguration of Raila Odinga last Tuesday.
