Civil Society Group to start peaceful demonstrations outside Supreme Court until Justices Lenaola and Mwilu resigns

The Civil Society Development Group has announced that activists will start peaceful demonstrations outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday if Justice Isaac Lenaola and Philomena Mwilu will not have resigned by Monday to pave the way for their investigations by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The group of activists seeks to bar the two judges from conducting any business in the apex court until a petition filed against them is heard and resolved.

In a petition filed with the Judicial Service Commission by Derrick Ngumu on September 18, Justices Isaac Lenaola and Philomena Mwilu have been accused of allegedly colluding with some legal counsel members allied to the opposition coalition NASA.

The petition alleged that the two judges met with NASA lawyers James Orengo, and Amos Wako several times during the petition filed by NASA leader Raila Odinga.

In a letter sent to the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, the civil society group is seeking a permit to picket outside the Supreme Court until the two justices vacate office.

Justice Lenaola has since responded to the petition by writing to Safaricom seeking to know if the petitioner had accessed his phone as the petition shows his call logs. He has also threatened to sue The Standard newspaper if they do not apologize for publishing the damning story before the petition was filed.

Lenaola also urged State House director of digital communications to pull social media posts that he termed as defamatory, failure to which he threatened to sue for defamation and seek an award of punitive damages.

Itumbi responded by saying he is ready to go to court with the justice if he so wishes.
