Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two more suspects in connection to the theft of Ksh15 million stolen from Wang Daoli, a Chinese national living in Langa’ta.

Daoli is said to have deposited Ksh15 million in his safe last week on Thursday before leaving the house for a party to celebrate China’s New Year. When he returned, he found the safe gone.

The two suspects – Cyrus Kinyanjui (32) and Alexander Kuria (30) – were traced to Mombasa by the detectives.

Kinyanjui arrested the first suspect aboard a Toyota Vanguard.

Ksh2 million was recovered on this vehicle according to a statement by the DCI.

“The second suspect who had no cash on him was also found to have deposited a million shillings in his Equity Bank account, which is believed to be part the stolen amount,” DCI tweeted.

When Kuria was arrested, detectives say that he had no money with him but they later discovered that he had deposited Ksh1 million in his bank account.

DCI sleuths believe this money was part of the Ksh15 million stolen from Waoli.

The Toyota Vanguard was also impounded as it is believed to have been behind the robbery. CCTV footage at Waoli’s Langa’ta home shows a vehicle similar to that intercepted with Kinyanjui.

For other suspects believed to have been behind the robbery; Kelvin Kimathi, Purity Achieng, Benard Ndiegu, and Serah Wanjiru were arrested on Saturday.

DCI is exploring the theory that this may have been an inside job.
