Elders from Uhuru’s Gatundu backyard dismiss secession call

Council of Elders drawn from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Gatundu South backyard has trashed the secession call by NASA head strategist Dr David Ndii.

The elders under the Kiama Kia Ma said the call by Ndii should not be focused on because it is meant to satisfy political egos of a few individuals.

“It would be against the wishes and aspirations of the country’s founding fathers to imagine, dream or encompass division; this is not what they fought and sacrificed form,” said Chairman Kariuki Kibathi as quoted by the Star.

The Gatundu South branch council chair further took a swipe at Ndii for yet again, his call for mass protest.

Ndii had earlier said that they will call for mass protest over Uhuru’s victory.

But Kibathi said this amounts to intimidating the Supreme Court which is hearing the election petition filed by NASA.

“Kenyans [voted for their preferred candidate] in the election. [Voting] is the mass action we should be speaking about. The Supreme Court will make the ruling on whether or not the President was fairly elected,” he said.

Kibathi urged the political class to maintain sanity in their political undertakings.

The elders had converged at Uhuru’s native home in Ichaweri.

Since Tuesday when Ndii first made the secessionist remark, it has been the topic all through.

Government has however dismissed his call saying that it cannot happen.

Eric Kiraithe, Government Spokesman on Thursday said such remarks were uncalled for. He told Ndii to move to Somalia if he feels discontented with President Uhuru’s victory.
