Emirates reduce flights to Seattle, Boston and three other US cities as Trump’s restrictions bites hard

By Jamhuri News Reporter

The Dubai-based airline, Emirates, has announced a reduction of flights to five US cities starting next month.

Flights to Seattle and Boston cities will be reduced from twice daily to one starting June. The airline will also cut-back on two flights a day to Los Angeles to one in a day.

Other cities where emirates will cut-back its direct flights include Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. The two cities will have five flights from emirate in a week starting May reducing it from the current seven in a week.

The airline’s decision was precipitated by President Donald Trump’s new security rules which have emphasized on more scrutiny for Middle East nationals traveling to the US.

Any electronic device larger than a mobile phone was banned in cabin flights from 10 airports within the Middle East and North Africa. The order was issued in March.

After assuming power, President Trump signed two executive orders which barred refugees and Muslims from the Middle East and North African countries from traveling to the US.

Since the directive was issued by Trump, Emirate bookings to the US fell by a third.

A spokeswoman for the Emirates said that the ban, especially on electronic devices, has hurt the airline.

“The recent actions taken by the US government relating to the issuance of entry visas heightened security vetting and restrictions on electronic devices in aircraft cabins, have had a direct impact on consumer interest and demand for air travel into the US.

“Over the past three months, we have seen a significant deterioration in the booking profiles on all our US routes, across all travel segments,”Emirates spokeswoman said
