By Pharis Kinyua

The Holy Litany God Healing Church in Runyenjes, Embu County popularly known as the Akorino is celebrating after one of their members won a parliamentary seat in Tuesday’s polls.

Eric Muchangi, reports the Standard, is Runyenje’s MP-elect.

He has succeeded outgoing MP Cecily Mbarire who lost her bid for Embu governorship in April during Jubilee primaries.

Mbarire has since been nominated for a Parliamentary seat by Jubilee Party.

Muchangi is well known to his constituents as “karemba” due to his white turban on his head as is tradition with his religion.

He put up a grueling battle to garner 57, 007 votes and trounced his opponent John Njiru who managed 4, 664 votes.

He vied on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Muchangi unsuccessfully vied for the same seat in 2013 on APK ticket but lost to Mbarire who vied on the then TNA party ticket.

His Bishop at the Church, Salesio Rutere opined his win was a gain for the Akorino as he will champion for their rights once he gets to Parliament.

Bishop Rutere said the Akorino are socially discriminated.

“We are grateful that God has heard our prayers. We expect good leadership from him,” quipped the Bishop.
