It’s Gold for Kenya as Kirui wins men’s marathon in London

It’s gold for Kenya after 24-year old Geoffrey Kirui won on Sunday in the men’s marathon at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London.

Kirui put an up impressive time of 2:08:27.

He was closely followed by Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola and the third position went to Alphonce Simbu from neighboring Tanzania.

Kenyans were not left behind as they hailed congratulatory messages to Kirui though social media.

Leading the pack was Sports Cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario who tweeted: “Congratulations Kirui on the #Gold delivery for Kenya in #London 2017.

With Kirui’s win, Kenyan has moved up to the third position.

It is behind the US and South Africa.

The first bronze medal for Kenya was won by Paul Tanui in the men’s 10, 000m.

Agnes Jebet also bagged a bronze medal for Kenya in the women’s 10, 000m yesterday.

The women’s marathon is currently ongoing.
