The government has withdrawn security detail of NASA principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.
According to Raila’s spokesman Dennis Onyango, he told the Star that bodyguards seconded to the two were recalled to the GSU camp on Monday evening.
ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale said he is privy to reports that they were deployed in North Eastern.
“Withdrawing Raila and Kalonzo security detail is ill-advised, backward, outdated and archaic to say the least,” he said according to the Star.
However, Police spokesman Charles Owino denied the reports stating they are scaling down on security detail attached to VIPs.
“This is not withdrawal, its scaling down of officers to deal with the shortage of about 5000 who have retired,” said the Police Spokesman.
The withdrawal comes hours before NASA embarked on street protest to push for reforms at the IEBC.
NASA wants 11 officials led by CEO Ezra Chiloba out of the commission.
NASA brigade says Chiloba who is the head of Secretariat at IEBC bungled August 8 polls.
Anti-riot police have been stationed in various police stations within Nairobi to contain the protest should it turn violent.
On Monday, President Uhuru Kenyatta warned NASA brigade of dire consequences should the protest turn violent.
In a firm statement, he said “they will know there’s a government in-charge.”
