Kenya on Friday recorded 322 new COVID-19 cases, raising the country’s caseload to 31,763, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi announced.

This was after a sample of 4,470 was tested in the last 24 hours.
Only nine of the new cases are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

The youngest victim is three years old and the oldest is 92 years old.
The CAS announced that some 288 patients have recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country so far to 18,157.

A total of 190 of those discharged were from the home-based programme, while 98 were discharged from various health facilities.
Sadly, 16 patients succumbed to the virus bringing the death toll to 532.

The new cases come as the official residence of Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana was placed on lockdown Friday after some staff tested positive for coronavirus.

According to Tana River Health CeC Javan Bonaya, 12 staffers at the residence tested positive for the virus.

Among those who have been in isolation is the County Director of Communications Steve Juma.

“Some of the staff members who are frequent visitors at the Governor’s home including myself tested positive for Covid-19 and we were placed under isolation in our own homes,” he told a local daily.

In other news, Kenya has been selected alongside three other African countries to take part in the COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials.
