Hillary Clinton speaks about nullification of Kenyan polls

Former US Democratic Party Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has spoken about the nullification of Kenya’s August 8 polls.

In an interview with National Public Radio’s Terry Gross released on Monday, Clinton said the September 1 Supreme Court ruling overturning President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ruling had marks of Cambridge Analytica, a US-based data company.

“You know, the Kenya election was just overturned and really what’s interesting about that — and I hope somebody writes about it Terry — the Kenyan election was also a project of Cambridge Analytica, the data company owned by the Mercer family that was instrumental in the Brexit vote,” said Clinton as Daily Nation quotes.

The data firm was involved in the Brexit exit by the UK and was also involved with Donald Trump’s campaign.

Cambridge Analytica is under probe by the UK government over its role in the UK Brexit for allegedly using personal data to influence voters.

The firm was roped in by one of the Presidential candidates to aid in campaigns in the run up to the bungled polls.

“So what happened in Kenya, which I’m only beginning to delve into, is that the Supreme Court there said there are so many really unanswered and problematic questions, we’re going to throw the election out and redo it,” she added.

Chief Justice David Maraga together with DCJ Philomena Mwilu, Isaac Lenaola, Smokin Wanjala nullified the polls citing there were irregularities and illegalities.

Fresh elections were ordered within 60 days.

Currently, there is uncertainty in the date for repeat polls.

IEBC had gazetted October 17 as the repeat poll date but OT-Morpho-the French firm providing election technology has requested for more time.
