IEBC clears Joho pending determination of forgery case

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) have cleared Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho to vie for second time.

Joho was cleared on Thursday by IEBC’s returning officer in the county Nancy Wanjiku.

Before his clearance, there were speculations that he would not be cleared due to a forgery case he is battling in court.

But soon after he was cleared, he said that it marks the beginning of his second bid for office.

“The journey continues. I thank God for all this and I want to tell the Jubilee government to be ready for a tough fight ahead. We are committed in this and we will ensure that we emerge winners,” said Joho

He was flanked by his running mate Dr William Kingi and a host of Mombasa County MPs.

Joho told his competitors to brace for a thunderous campaign.

“We are now ready for the campaign and let my competitors be ready. I will show them thunder.”

Joho will battle it out with Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and MP Hezron Awiti.

Speaking of the newly launched SGR, he talked of his concerns citing that government’s directive to have 80 per cent of the cargo transported through railway will kill haulier transport by road.

“They are 80 per cent of the cargo to be transported through the railway line. Why don’t you allow Kenya Railways to compete with other transporters so as to create the balance businesswise?” Omar said.
