Mudavadi accuses Jubilee of coercing organizations to fundraise its campaigns

Amani National Congress (ANC) Party leader and NASA principal Musalia Mudavadi has accused Jubilee of “extorting” money for campaigns from companies.

Speaking in Bomet County during Madaraka Day celebrations, Mudavadi said Jubilee administration was piling pressure on company MDs and CEOs to raise campaign funds.

He said that heads of parastatals already have targets and they are lamenting they cannot raise such amounts, the Star reports.

“Heads of Parastatals [have been given targets],” said Mudavadi adding, “now, theses parastatal bosses are asking where do they get the money so that these guys can spend it on campaign?”

He sounded a warning to company heads not to sign any document without knowing what it is all about as it may end up costing them heavily in the future.

“If you are the MD or CEO, be very careful. Do not sign anything that will harm you and your family. They will distance themselves from you when you get caught,” said the ANC boss.

He also hinted at the contingency of government using public resource to roll their campaigns.

Mudavadi said they are watching closely everything that is happening.

“NASA is watching. Do not use public resources for campaigns,” warned Mudavadi.

Use of public resources to roll a political campaign is prohibited by the constitution. It could attract a fine of upto sh2 million or a jail term of upto six years.

The accusations by Mudavadi are likely to open a fresh battle between the two rival coalitions with the campaign season officially on.
