IEBC Commissioner Dr. Roselyn Akombe has told Kenyans to pay no attention to an online smear campaign against her.

This follows a series of screenshot conversations allegedly between her and NASA honchos doing rounds in social media.

In response, she said this was a ploy to taint her image and dent the credibility of the commission as it gears up for repeat polls on October 26.

“I categorically state that the said messages are false and do not represent my views as an impartial public servant,” she said in a statement Sunday as quoted by the Star.

“I call for full investigation and prosecution of these malicious elements, who are relentless in their cyberbullying. It is sad that many Kenyans are still falling for such deception which only serves to divide the country,” she added.

In one of the fake conversations, commissioner Akombe allegedly tells an associate NASA’s lead counsel James Orengo that she will leak a memo addressed to CEO Ezra Chiloba.

“Orengo says he is yet to receive the memo yet they have prepared their bloggers and some journalists. If possible you can give it to some blogger I will send you,” reads part of the conversation.

It goes on: “Oh great! Ezra will soon be dialing the fire brigade, he has to leave. He is very firm on transparency and credibility of this process, such a hindrance. The stumbling block should now be done away with.”

In another conversation which she dismissed as fake, she is heard instructing Chair Wafula Chebukati’s personal assistant Gekara Muoni to leak a memo to an ODM operative.

Muoni was fired for allegedly being behind leakage of confidential information from Chebukati’s office to the media and opposition.

Akombe has since called on Kenyans not to fall for deceptive messages and always share what they have authenticated.
