Pending court cases challenging the nomination of some Jubilee Party and KANU nominees to Parliament and County Assemblies will delay their swearing-in.

The Political Parties and Dispute Tribunal rejected some JP and KANU’s nominee to Parliament and County Assemblies for violation of the law.

The Tribunal maintained that nomination slots should go to the youth, persons living with disabilities, ethnic minority and those marginalized.

But for the two political parties, this did not happen according to the Tribunal

Jubilee lodged an appeal with the Court of Appeal which is yet to give a ruling on the matter.

For instance, the Tribunal rejected nomination of Jubilee lawyer Jeniffer Shamalla to Parliament.

It said she does not represent any special group of the marginalized in the House and the party [JP] has not specified which group she represents.

Further, the Tribunal rejected Jubilee nominees to Murang’a and Laikipia County Assemblies on similar grounds and told the party to reconstitute the list.

Jubilee Appeals Tribunal vice chair Hilary Sigei, according to the Star, said they are waiting for a ruling by the Court of Appeal on the matter before handing IEBC their list for gazzettement.

KANU’s nomination list was rejected on grounds it failed to slot youths and persons living with disability in its nomination to the National Assembly and County Assemblies.

The IEBC today gazetted the names of MPs and MCAs-elect to allow their swearing-in and also convene their first session in the Parliament and County Assemblies respectively.

However, the nominees will be sworn-in after the court rules on the matter.
