Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation accounts frozen by NGO board

By Pharis Kinyua: Jamhuri News

The NGO Board has frozen accounts for Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation for failure to account for sh146 million.

In a letter sent to the Foundation on Monday by Mohammed Fazul, NGO Board CEO, he cited that the foundation has failed to account for the money it received from donors. The money was donated by donors to help marginalized communities access better healthcare and education.

The foundation’s board of directors was also dissolved with immediate effect and all operations carried out by the foundation were suspended. The board has been investigating the foundation for a while. In March, it raised questions over a bank account that was opened by the foundation contrary to the NGO Act.

Millions of shillings have been trickling to the account and the identities of the donors have remained a guarded secret by the foundation.

The foundation has also been accused of presenting false financial returns. Kalonzo Musyoka distanced himself from the accusations and termed the report as malicious and baseless.

“I will respond to all issues raised tomorrow (Wednesday) and Kenyans will be very shocked with what I will reveal. You should also look at the timing of the action of the board.” Said Kalonzo

The NGO board has reigned in on several foundations associated with key political figures in the country in the recent past. Recently, the board froze accounts for Kidero foundation which is associated with Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.
