Raila Odinga’s swearing-in ceremony has suffered yet another huge blow as Wiper Party headed by his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka bolted out of the plan.

Leaders within the echelons of Wiper Party on Monday dismissed the plan as an “impossibility”.

Led by Wiper Deputy Party Leader Farah Maalim and national vice-chairman Mutula Kilonzo, the party’s stand is that such a plan will be a recipe for chaos in the country.

Raila has insisted that come December 12, he will be sworn-in as the “people’s President” through the People’s Assembly.

On Tuesday last week-when President Uhuru Kenyatta took oath of office for a second term, Raila maintained after his swearing-in, he will proceed to take his place in State House.

In a move showing he is not backing down at all, he sent out invitation cards to his swearing-in ceremony on Saturday but did not disclose the venue.

This move is expected to open a new battlefront with the ruling regime, Jubilee.

Maalim while speaking in an interview with a local TV station said that from his point of view as a lawyer, installing Raila as “President” solves nothing; only legal means can resolve the political impasse between NASA and Jubilee.

“I am somebody who has a legal background and I would like to uphold the law. I have not been part of the process or agreement that finally came into pushing for the swearing-in,” he said.

For the Party’s vice-chair, he said that the swearing-in cannot happen. “It cannot happen”, he said as quoted by the Star.

Further asked if Kalonzo will attend the swearing-in ceremony, he replied, “no”. Kalonzo has been in Germany attending to his sick wife.

Kilonzo was last week with the party leader in Germany supporting his family.

Yesterday, Daily Nation reveled that a team tasked with planning Raila’s swearing-in ceremony was being intimidated by government.

The team which was unveiled last week on Friday and led by economist David Ndii suffered a major setback on Sunday when he, Ndii, was arrested on account of incitement.

He was shuttled to Nairobi where he was expected to record a statement with the serious crime unit.

He was later taken to Milimani Law Court where he was released on Sh10, 000 police bond. He was not charged.

Raila in response to his arrest said this is an indication Jubilee regime is bent on intimidating opposition using the police.
