Kenya ranked third in Africa, among best 50 globally in fight against cyber crime

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has ranked Kenya third in Africa for its preparedness to fight cyber crime.

Kenya was ranked third by ITU in its Global Cybersecurity Index due to legislative mechanism Kenyan government has put in place to fight cyber crime.

“Kenya, ranked third in the region, provides a good example of co-operation through its National Kenya Computer Incident Response Team Coordination Centre (National KECIRT/CC),” says ITU.

ITU gauged African countries on their effort to fight cybercrime by looking at their cooperation with other countries, laws and the technical capacity of institutions among other things.

Kenya Education Network (KENET) was lauded by the union for being at the forefront in supporting cyber security research.

It does this by providing low-cost Internet to educational institutions.

On the global scope, ITU places Kenya Globally, at 45th position out of the 144 countries the union has carried out its survey.

However, Mauritius and Rwanda are ahead of Kenya-they have done much more in the fight against cybercrime.

Nigeria Uganda, South Africa and Tanzania came in at 4th, 5th and 11th position respectively in the survey.

Globally, Singapore leads in the fight against cyber crime followed by U.S.
