The largest Facebook group in Kenya has been deleted by the social media giant Facebook under unclear circumstances. The group called Group Kenya had over 2.2 million Kenyans from across the globe at the time it was taken down.
Before it was taken down, Group Kenya had become a platform for vibrant debates ranging from politics, governance, social, as well as satire.
The admins posted a message on their fan page which has merely 100k followers explaining the misfortune.
“Right now all that is left is to make attempts to contact Facebook’s notoriously detached support and hope that they resolve the issue and reinstate the group,” the post read in part.
Group Kenya is a vibrant social platform that also owns Groupkenya.com and Group Kenya App which is designed to work similar to Facebook.
Unconfirmed sources say that the group may have been shut due to heated political debates ahead of August polls, or because of multiple fake news posts that flooded the group.
”The group had a lot of people posting click bait fake news and posts asking members to type Amen for likes. It used to get over twenty posts and over 10 requests to join every minute, it was a beehive of activity” One former moderator told Jamhuri News.
Legally, Facebook reserves the right to close Facebook accounts and groups that fail to follow their terms of service.
