Khalwale: Jubilee’s smart card, a modern pyramid scheme

By Jamhuri News Reporter

Ford Kenya Deputy Party leader Dr. Bonny Khalwale has promised that NASA government will take action on Jubilee for ostensibly fleecing Kenyans through its smart card system.

Speaking on NTV’s AM live show on Tuesday, the Kakamega Senator termed the smart card system as “a modern pyramid scheme”.

“I can assure you, that when NASA takes over; we are not going to leave that issue of Jubilee smart card like that. It is a modern day pyramid scheme,” remarked the Senator.

He said Jubilee hatched the plan to collect money through the smart card from the steps of political honchos who formed pyramid schemes in the run up to 2007 elections to fund their campaigns.

And the aftermath, he explained, scores of Kenyans lost their property and businesses.

“Today, we have victims of pyramid schemes. People who lost their businesses, people who lost their savings because they had schemed to steal,” he said.

But Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, a staunch Jubilee defender, said buying of the membership card was voluntary.

He said Jubilee committed no offence in coming up with the idea to have a party’s digital smart card system.

The sale of the smart card has rake in sh150 million for Jubilee Party. Earlier on, supporters were expected to use it during the primaries but the decision was rescinded on by the party over reports that there are politicians who bought the cards in bulk to secure a JP ticket in the primaries.
