Retired President Daniel Moi’s granddaughter Laila Denise Ibrahim has railed at Deputy President William Ruto after the “aborted handshake” on Thursday.
Ruto together with Energy CS Charles Keter, Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut and lawyer Stephen Kipkenda went to Moi’s Kabarak home but could not meet him.
Moi was reportedly having a physiotherapy session with his doctors at the time forcing the DP and his entourage to wait for two hours before leaving.
What followed was a barrage of hard-hitting statements against Baringo Senator-also Moi’s son, Gideon Moi.
Several quarters said that the Senator was responsible for the failed meeting between Ruto and Moi.
But Laila hit out at the DP via a Facebook post.
“There was a protocol fail on the DP’s side, you cannot just show up… without prior arrangements. Least forgetting that Moi is still a well-respected statesman,” read part of her post.
She went on to tell the DP that generosity “is self-defeating”, further quoting philosopher Machiavelli.
“DP you need to understand just as Machiavelli wrote in his book; “…a prince should guard himself, above all things, against being despised and hated; and generosity leads you to both. It is wiser to have a reputation as a miser, which brings disdain without hatred, than by seeking a reputation for generosity to incur a name for rapacity which begets both disdain and hatred.”
She asked the DP to settle his differences with her uncle who is the Baringo Senator given there has been long-standing political rivalry between them.
“Seek out a different strategy and approach and get rid of sycophancy and people who are capitalising on your rivalry.
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Leaders in the Rift Valley have pledged to reconcile the two leaders saying their political differences are a threat to the peace and unity in Rift Valley.
Moi has expressed interest in running for the presidency in 2022, so does Ruto.
In political unwinding’s seen recently, there are fears that a section of leaders including Raila Odinga could be plotting to support Moi and not Ruto.
