Opposition has started its liberation quest this time banking its hope on county assemblies.

Yesterday (Tuesday), NASA hit the road in creating the People’s Assembly which it hopes will actualize expectation of holding new polls on February 9.

NASA in dismissal of August 8 and October 26 polls termed them as a sham and wants fresh polls held within 90 days.

The People’s Assembly is a wing created by the opposition to ensure that a new electoral commission is constituted before February 9, 2018.

NASA has in the past stated it has no faith in the current IEBC led by Chairman Wafula Chebuati and CEO Ezra Chiloba.

People’s Assemblies motion documents have since been distributed to all the 47 counties.

The content of the document is seeking support from the county assemblies in declaring August 8 and October 26 repeat polls respectively as illegal and unconstitutional.

In both instances, President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner.

NASA has however, put the credibility of the poll-especially the repeat polls into question following low turnout across the country.

NASA co-principal Moses Wetangula in a presser on Tuesday in Nairobi said they should not be viewed as powerless.

Wetangula said with the People’s Assembly, NASA will liberate Kenyans from Jubilee’s rule.

“As we have said before, as a people, we are not powerless against a government that has closed its ears to reason and logic, he said according to the Star.

He added: “Beginning this week, therefore, the county assemblies of the Republic of Kenya shall be presented with a Motion to create a People’s Assembly through which the people of Kenya shall henceforth exercise their sovereignty up to and until the holding of proper elections in this country.”

Wetangula said the provision of the assembly is allowed by the Constitution.

The assembly will be made up of elected leaders including Governors, MPs, Senators and MCAs.

Civil society, religious groups as well as women and youth will also be part of the People’s Assembly.
