Controversial pastor James Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism is not off the hook yet after a reckless driving case against him was dismissed last week by a Limuru Court.

Ng’ang’a had been charged for allegedly killing Mercy Njeri on July 26, 2015 at about 5.45PM along the Naivasha/Nairobi road at Manguo area in Limuru sub-county.

He was charged alongside Simon Maina, Police Inspector Christopher Nzilu Nzioka and police inspector Patrick Kahindi Baya who were roped into the case.

The pastor had been accused of failing to report the incident and giving false information to a police officer.

In acquitting him, Limuru Chief Magistrate Godfrey Odour said the prosecution failed to prove their case showing the four had a hand in the death of Njeri in the fatal road crash, reports Citizen Digital.

Following the ruling there was huge outcry from the public who faulted the courts for letting the pastor walk scot-free.

On Tuesday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i ordered a fresh probe into the incident which killed Njeri.

Matiang’i said that it was mind-boggling to see the Neno Evangelical Centre Pastor acquitted yet a brazen crime was committed.

He tasked the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to conduct a thorough probe into the incident.

The Interior CS said the investigations by DCI should be able to guide the Judiciary on how to handle those who made the decision bordering on Ng’ang’a’s acquittal.

“This should be done with a view to reaching a suitable corrective and deterrent action to take against persons found culpable for improper handling of this case,” Matiang’i said according to the Star.

“While seeking a report on the investigatory and trial processes that may have caused this outcome, I urge you to appeal this judgment in its entirety.”

But even as the Interior CS issued the orders, Njeri’s family said they would appeal the decision.

The deceased’s husband, Martin Mbugua was in the Nissan March that collided head-on with Ng’ang’a’s Range Rover.

He attended his wife’s funeral in crutches.
