Chief Justice David Maraga has stunned many after honoring an invitation by a 90-year old granny in a fundraiser to build her a church in Nandi County.

Granny Grace Bor popularly known as Mama Grace, a staunch Seventh Day Adventist from Sigot Village had always wanted to meet Maraga in person and request him to build a church in her home village.

Mama Grace according to the Star always wanted a church in her backyard after former Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) Chair Sarah Serem built an SDA church at her rural home next to Eldoret International Airport.

She requested Serem to fix an appointment with Maraga. Mama Grace’s aim was to make her request to the CJ about building a Church in Sigot which has a huge following of SDA worshippers in Nandi County.

One morning, her son Edward Biwott who works as a Bank Manager with one of the Commercial Banks received a call informing him that her mother would meet finally the CJ at the Supreme Court. This was a dream finally come true!

Fast forward to last Saturday, an elated President of the Supreme Court despite not being allowed to induge in fundraisers in his capacity as a public servant, landed in Sigot where he gladly gave his contribution towards construction of the church.

“What I’m bringing here is purely my offering from my salary, because after all is over, each of us will appear before God during the rapture,” The CJ said according to the Star.

He said he is proud to be an Adventist and will do anything to support works aimed at strengthening the church.

He also talked of forgiveness, just a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta asked Kenyans to be forgiving.

Let’s all start shaking hands with our adversaries and in the heart of forgiveness, we shall overcome all the hardship. See how our country is like after the handshake by President Uhuru and Raila Odinga,” Maraga said.

“It’s all we want and let’s continue forgiving one another and forge ahead, and I assure what you thought was impossible will be possible.”
