Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has withdrawn his bid to have CJ Maraga removed from office.

Mr. Ngunjiri had petitioned the Judicial Service Commission on Thursday to oust the Chief Justice. Ngunjiri cited ”current political environment” in his withdrawal.

His withdrawal came barely hours after president Uhuru prevailed upon him to drop the petition. The President, in a meeting with Central Kenya leaders, asked Mr Wambugu to withdraw the petition, saying Jubilee Party’s focus is on the repeat presidential election.

“I stand by the grievances in the Maraga petition but due to the current political environment I will not pursue it,” Wambugu said in a tweet on Friday.

Wambugu had petitioned the Judicial Service Commission arguing that the nullification of President Kenyatta’s August 8 was equal to a judicial coup.

He had claimed that the decision was highly influenced by civil societies opposed to the president.
