A politician from Kiambu County has called on Kenya’s justice system to remand all suspects linked to Sh9 billion National Youth Service scam until the case is heard and determined.

She said this is one way to curb corruption in the country which has lately hit a new high.

“The law should be stiffened such that those facing corruption charges be remanded until proven innocent,” Gladys Chania told Jamhuri News in an interview.

She noted that with alarming levels of corruption and the media is awash with graft reports from the public sector daily, citizen revolution is beckoning.

Chania said this time around, Kenyans should revolt in the accord to completely slay corruption.

“Every day waking up on negative corruption news is upsetting Kenyans and creating anxiety. There is no medicine and equipment in our hospitals; our kindergarten kids have no proper classrooms or porridge as had been promised yet billions are being stolen,” she lamented.

“Stealing a billion in Kenya is crazy because a billion can take a Kenyan using 50K per day (Sh50, 000) for 54 years… What we need is citizen revolution because promises people will be prosecuted have been done for long,” added Chania.

The politician-cum-counseling psychologist asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to save Kenya from the yoke of corruption.

“Kindly sir, save Kenya; save our motherland. You have all the instruments of power,” she appealed.

Uhuru and his Deputy have spoken tough on the latest NYS scandal promising to have all those culpable brought to book.

Yesterday, the masterminds of the scam were arrested and are expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.

NYS Director-General Richard Ndubai, Youth and Gender PS Lillian Omollo among a battery of other public servants and business people linked to the NYS scandal were arrested.
