Lead Counsel for the National Super Alliance and Siaya Senator James Orengo has dismissed a petition linking him to two Judges of the Supreme Court.

On Monday, a petition was lodged with the Judicial Service Commission by a Mombasa based NGO, Angaza Empowerment Network

The NGO’s executive Director Malika Ngumu cited that Orengo was in constant communication with Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu and Justice Isaac Lenaola outside the courtroom when the Presidential petition was ongoing.

The petition purported that the Siaya Senator contacted the DCJ and also met her twice at Menelik Hospital in Kilimani and at Sky View Apartments in Kilimani, Nairobi.

However, Orengo has dismissed these claims as “balderdash”.

He said he has not met the DCJ in person and would not even recognize her in the streets without the judicial attire she dons while in the courtroom.

“I have never approached any of the judicial officers whether in the chambers or anywhere else while discharging my duties as a lawyer of repute,” said Orengo in his defense.

Orengo also dismissed claims that he contacted Justice Mwilu through a phone line registered to her sister, Margaret Orengo.

He said he only has two sisters; one passed on over twenty years ago and the other, Florence, is married and stays in Meru.

“For the record, I do not have a sister called by that name…I have only two sisters in my life. One was Jane and she died more than 20-years ago and the other one is called Florence and is happily married in Meru.”

Ngumu in his petition noted: “It is within proof that it was actually James Orengo in malevolent disguise, communicating with the DCJ using a number registered under his sister’s details.”

“The DCJ on August 18, 2017 met and had a lengthy meeting with Orengo at Menelik Hospital Kilimani in Nairobi. The meeting started at 1543 hours and ended and 2106 hours. In addition, the DCJ met Orengo in the company of Wetangula on the following dates, 6th, 7th, 18th at Menelik Hospital and on the 29th August at Sky View apartments in Kilimani, Nairobi.”

The petitioner in his supporting documents provided the locations, time and specific phone numbers used for communication between NASA legal counsel and other individuals.

However, the Senator said, “Such petitions should first be interrogated before being filed before the Judicial Service Commission.”

He said Ngumu, the petitioner, should be sued for giving false information.
