A young woman from Baringo County caused a stir yesterday as she did the unthinkable to get Deputy President William Ruto’s attention.

Ruto was in the middle of his speech when Michelle Chepkoech, with two young children in her arms, made way to the dais.

The DP’s security detail tried to block her but her voice calling out “Mheshimiwa” grew louder forcing Ruto to cut his speech prematurely.

He asked his bodyguards to allow the woman to proceed to the where she waited for him until he was done with his speech.

He later talked to Chepkoech and told her to visit him at his Karen office in Nairobi.

Chepkpoech, a mother of five told journalists that her bid to talk to the DP was due to poverty and she hoped the DP would help her.

“I have told so many people, including leaders, about my problem but they have not helped me. I just wanted the DP to buy me and my children a small piece of land,” said Chepkoech who lives in Eldama Ravine but hails from Sesya in Baringo Central according to the Star.

The DP had toured Baringo-home to his political nemesis Gideon Moi-to launch Eldama-Ravine Technical Institute, Makutano-Ravine road and Skyline Sacco Plaza.

Several leaders from the region including Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Eldama Ravine MP Moses Lessonet, Mogotio MP Daniel Tuitoek, Kimani IIchung’wa of Kikuyu, and Oscar Sudi of Kapseret were present.

Ruto was also crowned an elder by the Tugen Council.
