Preparations for the swearing in of President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta are in top gear.

The Assumption of Office Committee tasked with organizing the event has embarked on the process a few days after Uhuru was declared the winner of October repeat presidential poll.

The committee is chaired by Secretary to the Cabinet Joseph Kinyua.

Before the nullification of the August 8 polls by the Supreme Court, the committee was almost finished with organizing the event.

But after the election was nullified, everything was put on hold.

However, with Uhuru’s new victory, they picked up from where they left.

“So far no petition has been filed in the Supreme Court, which has prompted the committee to proceed with the preparations. The committee is working on the logistical plans and the guests to be invited,” said an official from Office of the President according to the Star.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati declared Uhuru the winner of the repeat polls.

He garnered 7, 483, 895 votes.

The law requires anyone challenging the victory to lodge his petition within seven days.

Hitherto, there is no petition challenging his victory and he may be sworn in on November 14.

The law dictates that: “The President-elect shall be sworn in on the first Tuesday following the fourteenth day after the declaration of the results of the presidential election, if no petition has been filed.”

The swearing in ceremony of President-elect is made public and the Chief Justice David Maraga or in his absence Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.

However, in the event that his victory is challenged at the Supreme Court but in the end it is upheld, he will be sworn in on the seventh day after the court delivers the ruling.
