Opposition leader Raila Odinga has told US’ International Republican Institute that Kenya’s justice will only be served once fresh polls are held in February next year.

Raila insisted the last two elections conducted in less than three months have not reflected the will of the people.

He said they were marred by electoral irregularities and therefore, their outcome cannot be binding.

The Supreme Court on September 1 nullified August 8 polls. It cited the elections were marred by irregularities and illegalities.

It ordered for fresh polls within 60 days.

The repeat elections were held on October 26. But Raila had withdrawn from the race a week before the polls saying IEBC lacks capacity to conduct fresh elections.

The repeat Presidential election characterized by low voter turnout and violence in some parts has been challenged at the Supreme Court by two lobby groups and former Kilome MP Haron Mwau.

Informed by this, Raila told President of the US’ International Republican Institute Daniel Twining in a meeting on Friday that the last straw will be holding fresh polls.

“We discussed Kenya’s political situation with particular emphasis on threats to democracy, constitutionalism and the rule of law,” said he according to the Star.

In a tweet, he said: “We as NASA coalition maintain that justice must be done for our people through a free and fair election as ordered by the Supreme Court.”

Raila has been on a tour to the US since Wednesday. He has addressed the US congress on Kenya’s precarious political situation.

On Thursday in an address to US policy think tank Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC, he said he needs all their help to liberate Kenya.

“I have come to Washington to convey a very simple message. We need engagement with many arms of government to help find solutions to the problems Kenya is facing because I am convinced that all is not lost. Kenyans are asking for a fresh and credible election,” said he.

He said Kenya is ailing from tribalism and Jubilee regime cannot handle the vice any better.

Raila also said Kenya is in the same boat with African Countries whose leaders have refused to step down from power.

“Africa deserves better. Africa can be better governed because we currently are witnessing elections being held like rituals where the incumbent is always thought to win. This is not democracy.

The Jubilee government has a goal of ruling until 2032 and has targeted severe damage to institutions including IEBC and the judiciary.”
