Deputy President William Ruto has chided a section of governors saying they act like “activists” and “comedians”.

The DP told the Governors during their induction in Kwale on Saturday that they have a mandate to create investor friendly environments within their counties.

He said this cannot happen if some of the NASA allied governors are seen participating in opposition’s street protests.

“We should not scare away hope of development by carrying twigs. If we leaders carry twigs then what should activists do,” said the DP as told by the Star.

Without naming the particular county, he said a potential investor was chased away by goons while attending a seminar in the region.

“Investors were attacked and chased away by goons in one county and leaders are saying that ‘we don’t want seminars in our areas.

“If you are at the fore front of demonstrations in your county as a governor then how do you expect investors to settle in that area?” asked Ruto.

He pledged to work together with all the governors, irrespective of their political affiliation towards strengthening devolution further.

“Our offices are open any time for consultation on development. We will support you in delivering services to the people.”

In Jubilee’s second term, government through the counties is keen on developing food security, manufacturing, affordable housing and universal healthcare.

The Agriculture ministry will work closely with all the counties in keeping an updated record of all farmers, giving subsidies and boosting farming through irrigation.

He said Governors should now take this challenge and ensure that the four pillars are well implemented during their term in office.

“Governors will be the champions of these principles to make sure their counties are investor friendly,” asserted the DP.

Council of Governors Chairman and Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok said his team is ready to work with government.

“This exercise has shown us that devolution is a possible thing. I wish to thank all of you for participating effectively and I am sure we are now able to deliver what we have learnt and serve the people,” Nanok stated.
