The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion has asked ODM leadership to expunge his name from the nomination list to Parliament.

Sossion on Monday said that he has other pressing commitments to attend to.

“I take this early opportunity to thank my party leader Raila Odinga for picking my name among the few nomination list to Parliament but I now want to urge him to withdraw me from the list and consider appointing another person because I have got other commitments to attend,” he said after the swearing-in of Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis as quoted by the Star.

Sossion had been nominated to Parliament by ODM to represent workers by virtue of his work experience as a union boss.

His pronouncement comes barely a week after former Bomet Governor and Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party boss Isaac Ruto requested he be nominated to Parliament on an ODM ticket.

Ruto will take on the Leader of Minority position in Parliament should his nomination sail through.

ODM leadership pondered over the matter and decided to have Ruto replace Sossion.

At first, the news did not sit very well with a section of ODM elected politicians.

Sossion’s support for NASA had ruffled feathers within the union and was castigated for saying that teachers are in support of NASA.

KNUT Chairman Mudzo Nzili said the union’s leadership did not have any meeting where they declared to support NASA.

However, Sossion said that every Kenyan citizen has a right support any political faction that he/she feels serves his interest best.
