Three people died on Sunday night after a massive fire engulfed their homestead in Kijiji area, Southlands Estate in Langat’a.

The inferno left scores of other dwellers in the area homeless.

According to the National Disaster Management Unit Deputy Director Pius Masai, The bodies were recovered on Monday morning.

Earlier, Police through Langat’a OCPD had stated there were no deaths.

The fire was contained in the wee hours of the morning. It started at about 9pm on Sunday night.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja who arrived at the scene shortly after said it could be an electrical fault given that the area is densely populated and has a slum setting.

He also said lack of access road into the slums made it hard for fire engines to get to the scene.

Others ran out of water hours into the battling of the fire and they had to leave.

Kenya Red Cross is currently at the scene and helping in determining if there could be more casualties.

One of the victims left homeless, Jacinta Kigo, a mother of three, has appealed to well-wishers to donate food and clothes to them.

“We’ve nothing left. The only thing we have left is the clothes we have on. My appeal to Kenyans of goodwill is that they can donate anything from food to clothes to us,” said Kigo.
