World’s best teacher Peter Tabichi bags 2020 Ahmisa Award in London

Kenyan teacher Peter Tabichi has clinched yet another prestigious award a year after he won the Global Teacher Prize worth Ksh100 million.

He was recently named the winner of the 2020 Ahimsa Award by the Trustees of the Institute of Jainology based in London.

Tabichi is a teacher at Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School in the sleepy Pwani village in Nakuru County.

He was awarded the 2020 Ahmisa Award due to his dedication to his calling which has in turn reduced absenteeism in school and also local violence.

Tabichi was also awarded for taking initiative and showing the local community how to cultivate drought-resistant crops in a bid to improve food security.

The Institute of Jainology (IOJ) citied that as a teacher, through his works, he has shown a lot of love and compassion for everyone not just his students.

While acknowledging the recognition he has received so far, Tabichi who is a mathematics and physics teacher said that he has found compassion to be a virtue that he cannot live without.

“That Jainology is all about non-violence and compassion, is very dear to my heart as a religious man,” Tabichi said.

After the Global Teacher Prize, Tabichi was appointed a member of the National Heroes Council of Kenya by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed.

According to Wikipedia, the Ahimsa Award is an annual award given by Institute of Jainology in recognition of individuals who embody and promote the principles of Ahmisa which roots for non-violence.

IOJ was established in 2006.

The UK celebrates the annual Ahmisa Day on October 2 and is celebrated at the Palace of Westminster – House of Commons in London. Usually, it is also held to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth.

IOJ represents Jainism faith and is based in London.
