World’s Best Teacher Peter Tabichi, the recipient of the 2019 Global Teacher’s Prize award has been appointed for an international role by Varkey Foundation.

The chemistry and mathematics teacher at Keriko Secondary Mixed Day Secondary School in Nakuru will be a part of the Global Students Prize Academy.

In a statement, Varkey said Tabichi will join Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis – actors – and sports personalities Zach and Julie Ertz in becoming members of the judging panel that will pick the winner of the new Chegg.org Global Student Prize.

Tabichi was picked based on the fact that he met the threshold of having a history of mentoring students in their studies or careers.

He positioned himself as a pillar of support for young students and this positively impacted their lives.

His selflessness was also a key pointer for Varkey Foundation to pick him as one of the judges.

“Peter Tabichi, who donates 80 percent of his salary to the poor, helped turn lives around at his school, mentored his pupils to win national and international science and engineering fairs.

By making his students believe in themselves, Bro Tabichi dramatically improved their achievement and self-esteem, doubling his school enrolment over three years and boosting the numbers going on to university,” read the statement according to Nairobi News.

Chegg.org Student Prize awards are similar to the Global Teacher Prize. It intends to celebrate excelling students all over the world who make a mark in the lives of others through their studies.

The final gala on the award will be held in Paris, November.

Tabichi’s award in 2019 saw him walk home with Ksh100 million cash prize.

In 2020, he clinched another award, Ahimsa Award conferred to him by Trustees of the Institute of Jainology in London
