Wiper hands out Muthama’s Senatorial ticket to Kala

Wiper Democratic Movement Party has already handed out Machakos County nomination ticket for Senator to Jackson Kala.

This is after incumbent Senator Johnstone Muthama declared he will not contest for the seat on August 8.

Wiper Party National Elections Board Chairperson Agatha Solitei told the Star that the party issued the nomination to Kala because they would have missed out on a Senator candidate for Machakos County.

All political parties were expected to hand into the IEBC a list of candidates from their parties vying for elective seats by Wednesday.

IEBC however, extended the deadline to Sunday.

“If you are aware, the deadline for all political parties to submit their candidates to the IEBC was on Wednesday and Muthama had already given out his position, we decide to give the certificate to Kala,” said Solitei.

She said that there is no room to negotiate with Muthama as the board has already issued the nomination certificate to Kala.

In acrimonious fallout with Wiper, Muthama bowed out of the race citing injustice and irregularities in Kalonzo Musyoka led party.

He said the spirit of democracy is not entrenched in the party which secured him a seat in the Senate in 2013.

Muthama also revealed that he wanted to shift his political base to Nairobi County but was stopped by Kalonzo.

He said he will campaign for Raila Odinga but not Wiper.
