Leaders drawn from Maasai community have warned former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to keep of matters of the maa people and their land.

Led by former Interior CS Joseph Ole Lenku, the leaders said Raila should desist from issuing such inflammatory statements that could cause violence.

“Kajiado is one of the most peaceful counties in Kenya. We have coexisted peacefully with people who have bought property here even when other places were burning. We do not need the kind of politics Raila is trying to introduce in Kajiado,” said Lenku as Daily Nation reports.

He spoke at Mile 46, Iloodokilani, exactly where Raila was standing when he told the maa community not to sell their land to “outsiders” and also allegedly called on non-locals to leave Kajiado.

He said they are bent on conducting peaceful polls.

“We shall not be divided along tribal or religious lines and we will not be incited to fight with our neighbours,” said Lenku adding, “No one will be chased out of Kajiado County.”

Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Alex ole Magelo told Raila not to educate them on their land rights.

“We are not small children. We know land rights more than you,” Magelo told off Raila.

Earlier on Monday, other Maasai leaders led by Moses Ole Sakuda issued a 48-hour ultimatum for police to arrest Raila for making inciting remarks.

Raila has however denied that his statements were meant to cause violence.
