Police working towards building a non-existent case to nullify my victory-Mohammed Ali

Former investigative journalist now Nyali MP, Mohammed Ali has hit out at police in Mombasa for ostensibly building a “non-existent” case to overturn his win.

Late last week, he appeared at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in Mombasa where he recorded a statement over allegations of electoral malpractice.

After a 30-minute interrogation, he came out and said they were building a non-existent case with the motive to nullify his win.

“I find it suspect to have been summoned a month after the poll. It shows how police and their sponsors are desperately trying to build to build a non-existent case,” he said according to the Star.

“They will not succeed. There is no case. Someone is cooking evidence. Police are involved.”

He added that based on the kind of questions put forward by the DCI detectives, it was evident they were pushing the agenda of a prominent businessman in the county.

Ali has been embroiled in a political supremacy battle with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.

Incidentally, Joho’s cousin said Abdalla was vying for Nyali MP on an ODM ticket but was trounced by Ali who vied as an independent candidate.

On September 5, the Nyali MP accused the governor’s elder brother, Abu Joho of forcing his supporters and women to write statements that they were involved in electoral malpractice.

Abu through the governor’s spokesman Richard Chacha denied the allegations.
