A 30-year old man from Kiamuturi village in Mathioya Constituency who chopped off his mother’s hands has surrendered to police.

The suspect, Zachary Githiomi, is reported to have headed to Mioro Administration Police Post where he told them he had killed his mother.

Mathioya OCPD Pauline Mwangi told journalist on Monday evening that the suspect had used a machete to cut off 65-year-old Regina Wanjiru’s hands.

Githiomi, according to neighbors and witnesses, had gotten into an argument with the mother over his demand to get a share of the land owned by his mother.

It is then that he attacked her and fled to Mioro AP Post.

Before this incident, Wanjiru had filed a complaint with the police after Githiomi burnt down her house. She later withdrew the complaint saying the issue would be solved out of court.

Neighbors also say that before yesterday’s incident, Githiomi had been spotted around the neighborhood roaming around carrying a machete.

His brother, Charles Mwangi said Githiomi has made several attempts to kill his mother.

Wanjiru was rushed to Kiria-ini Mission Hospital where she has been receiving treatment. Doctors, however, say that her left hand is completely cut off while her right hand is badly severed.
