A Kenyan cargo plane owned by Silverstone Air on Saturday crash-landed in Somalia’s Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu.
Preliminary reports indicate that the pilot Fokker 50 (5Y-MHT) was avoiding hitting an object on the runway but ended up crashing the plane on a concrete barrier at the airport, a few metres from the ocean.
Luckily, there were no casualties, Silverstone Air officials have confirmed.
In November 2019, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) ordered Silverstone to suspend its Dash 8 fleet following an incident where one of its plane’s tyres fell off during take-off.
The pilot of the Dash 8 300, with registration number 5Y-NOP was forced to crash-land at the Eldoret Airport, thwarting the journey to Nairobi from Lodwar.
On November 12 2019, Silverstone temporarily suspended all operations saying “the safety of our passengers, crew and aircraft remain our highest priority.”
