A female trader from Kisumu Beatrice Magolo is nursing injuries after she was dragged on the tarmac by a vehicle belonging to the Kisumu County enforcement division.

A video of the woman being dragged by a white pick-up went viral on Wednesday triggering anger from Kenyans for endangering her life.

Magolo was selling her wares along Angawa Street when county enforcement officers (kanjo/county askaris) pounced on her.

The men who were unknown to her handled her inappropriately, she said, adding that this is why she resisted being bundled into an already waiting pick-up.

This drew the attention of bodaboda riders and fellow hawkers who jammed the scene prompting the driver of the pick-up to speed off as one for the kanjo’s held tightly onto Magolo’s hand.

A part of her body was left hanging and dragged through the tarmac.

Angry bodaboda riders quickly followed the vehicle hooting for the driver to stop.

The mother of four said that she was in town hawking because she has to provide for her kids as a single mother.

Her son who was at the scene wailed loudly after seeing what was happening to her mother and as a result, was bundled into the vehicle and locked up at Central Police Station in Kisumu.

She was dragged towards Central Police Station and was dropped at the gate.

One her her colleagues said she recently underwent a hernia operation and is still nursing a wound on her stomach from the surgery.

She is calling for justice.

The Kisumu County Government in a response said that the officers only acted after she allegedly tried to attack them.
