All Cabinet Secretaries still in office, says State House Spokesperson

All Cabinet Secretaries will remain in office until President Uhuru Kenyatta constitutes his preferred team in the Cabinet, State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu has said.

Esipisu issued the statement a day after the President unveiled some of the personalities he has nominated for Cabinet positions in his second term.

He said a memorandum from the Head of Public Service requires all Cabinet Secretaries to remain in office until a new batch is ready for take-over.

“In the coming days, His Excellency the President will complete the task of assembling the team to serve in his second term of office, guided by merit, integrity, commitment to service, and in terms of the Constitution,” said Esipisu as told by Daily Nation.

Yesterday, the President unveiled three persons whom he wants vetted to take up Cabinet positions.

They include former Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani, Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko and ex-Turkana Senator Jonh Munyes.

Uhuru also retained the following ministerial heads: Dr Fred Matiang’i (Education), Joe Mucheru (ICT), James Macharia (Transport), Najib Balala (Tourism), Charles Keter (Energy) and Henry Rotich (Treasury).

He said he will make further announcements on who will fill the Cabinet positions

“I will be making further announcements to fill Cabinet positions, to fill the positions of Principal Secretaries as well as our Sagas (parastatals) as we continue to populate the Government with those that will be charged with the responsibility of executing our agenda for the next five years.”

The fate of 13 CSs who were not named on Friday is yet to be known. Some of them may come back.

They are: Mwangi Kiunjuri (Devolution), Hassan Wario (Sports), Aden Mohammed (Industrialization), Amb. Amina Mohammed (Foreign Affairs), Eugene Wamalwa (Water and Irrigation), Dan Kazungu (Mining),Phylis Kandie (Labour), Prof Judy Wakhungu (Environment), Rachel Omamo (Defense), Sicily Kariuki (Public Service), Willy Bett (Agriculture), Cleopa Mailu (Health) and Jacob Kaimenyi (Lands).
